Kids’s dental health : Dental care starts even before birth

Pediatric dental care is gaining much attention of the dentists as well as the parents. its a good sign towards ensuring preventive dental health. Renowned pediatric dentists advocate for dental health for infants and some even opine for dental care even before birth. this is a sphere we would like the would be mothers be aware of and take due step to make sure that their own dental health and the kids’ health also protected.

Even though during pregnancy special care is needed for expecting women or would be mothers, dental health is also an important aspect of that special care regime. Many expecting women report bleeding gum or soreness in the gum. This could be due to pregnancy gingivitis. During pregnancy body goes through series of hormonal changes. The extra hormonal activity during this phase , results in excessive plaque build up. Along with that there is also developing inflammation, puffiness, soreness and sometimes bleeding. Being aware about these issues and seeing a dentist to take necessary steps can ensure better dental health.

Dentists often get this to hear, ‘ I have got my mother’s bad teeth’ or ‘ all my family members have soft teeth’. This is a common misconception. Tooth decay is not inherited. It may be possible in case of rare genetically inheritance that some dental abnormalities appear, but not a common case. However when it comes to dental infections, mothers aware of dental or gum infections and treating at the right time can prevent the passing of the disease to their children.

Its usually during the care taking the bacterial infections are contracted unknowingly transmitted to the kids. Hence its very important to start treating the dental diseases at an early stage and make sure preventive health practice is at place.
