There are several ways to whiten your teeth but the most important thing is to understand what causes the yellowing of the teeth. It is always better to prevent the cause than to take remedial steps.

Plaque build-up

Plaque is a sticky substance that builds up because of the bacterial activity. While brushing, the hard-to-reach areas are often left out. Hence those areas plaque is easy to build up. The bacterial thrive there. In absence of effective brushing, the accumulating plaque hardens and then it becomes tartar. This a common cause of yellow teeth.

Some  food and drinks

Food s like apples, coffee, cola. soda, tea, and sodas can cause  stain on  teeth. These are acidic and can cause erosion of  tooth enamel. This result sin exposure of  the dentin, a layer of the tooth that is yellow in color.

Smoking or chewing tobacco

Continuous use of tobacco such as tobacco smoking o chewing can be harmful for teeth. They contain harmful chemicals like nicotine and tar . These turn teeth yellow and  can leave brown stains.

Excessive fluoride

Too much fluoride in the liquid intake can result in dental fluorosis or the discoloration of the tooth enamel. The recommended amount of fluoride in toothpaste is 1500ppm,

Aging

With ageing the teeth coloration changes. The enamel, the outermost layer of teeth, gets worn out and expose the following layer called the dentin. As dentin is yellow in color , the teeth look yellowish. 22
